Is anyone familiar with this name? How unusual is it? Is it found in tanach?

Can any grammarists explain how the meaning is different from Nachum?

Not in Tanach, though the plural of the word - tanchumim is in Navi. It means word of comfort.
Love the nickname Tani!

I know a Tanchum nicknamed Tani.

I have also found it in (recent) historical accounts of an early Jewish peddler/successful storekeeper and patriarch, Tanchum (Tonkle was his English nickname 😂) Pearlstine in the American south circa the Civil War if I recall correctly. I can post references if that interests you.

Name of a character in Hidden by Rochel Istrin. I don't think it's relevant but I assume it must have been a name used by that demographic in that time period....

The only Tanchum I know is Tanchum Torah from the book “Goodnight My Friend Aleph”. Very Happy. It’s definitely unique!

Grammatically- Tanchum means consolation, Menachem means one who gives consolation, and Nachum is one who is or has been consoled. Nachum is a name in Tanach. The others are nouns that have been made into names.

I think they are all lovely names.

I also know a person named Tanchum and called Tani by the family - he’s a rabbi and goes by his full name as an adult, until I saw this thread I had thought it was a unique nickname to this family. There is a Rabbi Tanchum in the Gemara.
