Try the book Two Family House by Lynda Cohen Loigman.
Another suggestion, The Hired Girl by Amy Laura Schlitz

The Huntress by Kate Quinn.
Very good but more intense than my previous suggestions.
Some of the stand alone historical novels by Rhys Bowen are very enjoyable reads (her series all start off well but get very formulaic by the 5th or so. She started off her writing career by being a ghostwriter for Sweet Valley High books, and it shows, lol).
You may like Beatriz Williams' books. I enjoyed most of her historical novels, just not the "wicked city" prohibition Era ones. She always puts in a twist into her family sagas.
Very very intense (and a bit bleak) but one of my top faves is Bleeding Heart Square by Andrew Taylor. Sort of historical psychological suspense mystery. Hard to quantify.
