Im thinking of mirroring the top half of a room (until the wainscoting) to make it look larger.

I think I can use mirror that has some veining in it, to make it more practical.

I know many are unhappy with mirrored walls.

Is anyone happy?

Any tips on doing this that may make it more practical?

Please don't do it. It's so uncomfortable to see everything, all the time. And it's such an old look. Paint white and hang up a few mirrors if you want the room to look bigger.

If you can hang a mirror opposite a window, you'll bring a lot of light into the room. And, of course, splurge on lighting fixtures.

Mirroring the walls actually makes the space look smaller, because you see everything in multiples. It's visually busy.

Try to use furniture that's visually light (low chairs, light fabrics, glass and Lucite) and have only one focal point in the room.
