kol hakovod to you

Just want to say that when you started round one this was too impossible for me to even consider it. I would skip by this thread, not even wanting to open it because I knew that it is really something that I need to do but I could never.

Nonetheless, it must've planted a seed in my head and slowly I started to grow. I bh got a filter on my laptop and as time went on I blocked more and more thing. Hulu, netflix, latest being youtube.

I still can't commit to completely now watch, I still do sometimes at night on my husbands phone... but bh have made progress and I credit you for it....

Wow that is awesome of you!
Keep it up!

This is gonna be very very hard for me, but I need the zechus so I am willing to start (it was a split second decision made now in a moment of inspiration) and I hope I will be able to stay afloat all through the end!

Thanks a bunch!

I'm so inspired by you both!! Sometimes it helps to push off the desire, like I'll watch in an hour and then when that hour passes, say again I'll watch in another hour!

Can I suggest a slightly modified idea for people who might be willing to consider it?

YouTube is not the real issue here. It's WHAT you watch on YouTube.

There are amazing shiurim on YouTube from Rabbi YY Jacobson, Rabbi Akiva Tatz, Rabbi Manis Friedman, etc.

YouTube is not the villian. It is a tool that can be used incorrectly or correctly.

I think reframing is a wise idea. Then choose what you want to do.

Agree and I tried that but it doesn’t help the addiction problem. I still end up spending too much time online irresponsibly with the excuse that I’m doing something good. And one video leads to another. Starts with shiurim, then harmless news, and you’re back to the addiction.
For me it only works if I’m completely off.
But you’re right, it might work for others.

joining the 40 day commitment bli neder.
40th day ends on july 21. (just for tracking record)
I also am attaching a small amount of cash to this device that if I violate my commitment. (unless something urgent comes up that I need to watch, hope that's ok) it goes to tzedaka.

Welcome to the club! That’s a great idea!
Remember that the first few days are the hardest!
I don’t find it so hard by now. I think it’s day 9 today for me.
Hatzlacha to you!

Do you also feel it gets easier?
I’m not missing it as much as I thought I would.
