So don't go. It should be out of the question. Your kids safety comes before your family and yourself.
Sorry if I'm repetitive, but the thought of going has me terrified.

I wish it’s that simple the succah is in the backyard not far from the pool so everyone will be constantly in and out.

Will the other members in your house be using the pool? Can they be trusted to close the door? If they are not used to it, they will forget. Humans make mistakes

Could they empty the pool before Succos?

This isn't safe either, unless there's a proper cover.

There are rent a fence companies out there.
Otherwise with the idea that the succah and pool near each other. No

Just think about how many normal, attentive parents accidentally leave babies in the car every year.
I wouldn't trust anyone to remember to lock the door.

I have a pool in my backyard.
NO.
JUST NO.
Sorry.
I'm not one that is terrified of pools obviously. We own one. All my kids know how to swim. But no gate and little kids? Highly irresponsible to go.
When I moved in to my house it took a few weeks till I was able to get a gate installed. My youngest was 9 at that time and knew how to swim well. I did not take any guest until my gate was installed. I would never take that achrayus. I can't understand how your relative is even considering having you over.

One second, this actually has potential.
Op, can the pool be emptied, covered and can thick foam lining be put down on the bottom in case someone falls? I think that sounds pretty safe

No! You do not go. You do see how risky this is right?

I don't know how deep that pool is, but mine at its deepest is about 10ft. I don't want to think what happens when a kid falls 10ft even though there might be foam.
Besides, emptying a pool is a huge project, it's not an easy fix.

That’s definitely something I can ask. I know they have a company hired to shut the pool at the end of the season but have no idea if it’s in the plans for before succos. I found another option as well it’s a 4’ orange plastic gardening fence that can be stapled into wooden sticks put into the ground so working on this as well.

That is not safe fence, sorry.
Closing the pool may be a better solution if they have a good tight cover for the pool. If your kids runs on it they may get wet but the cover is usually strong enough to hold an adult.

That is the only safe way around a pool. |
Not really. Even people who know how to swim can drown.

Such an easy answer. Not to echo everyone else but you do not go. Period. Eat peanut butter sandwiches at home without a sukkah but don’t go. That’s insane.

Please do not go.
I just came across an instagram account of a mother who also taught her kids to swim and was always supervising them... but one day her 5 year old slipped away and drowned.
Shes made it her mission to teach proper pool safety.

Not good enough.
Someone comes to the door and kid sneaks out while people are chatting with the visitor.
Other people don't want to be locked in and insist you leave the key somewhere public.
Even a high bolt lock won't stop a determined 5 year old with a chair.
I grew up in an area with lots of pools, and several tragic stories.

This. Even with a fence I’d be super anxious when the sukkah will already by near the pool.

Last year during covid we purchased an easy set intex pool which is above ground and doesn't legally require a fence.
I spend a ton of money on a fence anyway because I'm neurotic and I keep it locked, covered, and the ladder pulled out whenever it's not in use.
These things are too dangerous to mess around with.
