I am right in the middle of mixing up a challah dough( though I won't be using it for an actual challah) from one kilo of flour and I have just realized I don't have enough yeast. I need 40gr and I only have ten. Is there anything I can do that doesn't require leaving my house to acquit some more?

Please answer asap
TIA

Let it rise for longer.

If you look at different recipes, you'll see that there's a big range of amounts of yeast called for, even with the same amount of flour.

The texture may change, but the challah will probably be fine.

Also if you keep the room as warm as possible and as humid as you can.
Leave the oven on in the same room if you can to warm the room (not with the
he dough in the oven).
Boil pots of water to make it humid.
Have the AC off in that whole area of the house.

If the above still dont help you can you can maybe mix into the dough a little more flour and water (only if iy wont ruin the recipe)
where the water is about 102 degrees faranheit (use a thermometer if you have.)
I do not recommend throwing out the dough.
You may be pleasantly surprised that it comes out ok.
First hope for the best.

OP its unclear from your post.
Did you already mix the yeast into the dough?
If not, when you mix the yeast with water before mixing it into the dough make sure you use HOT water not just lukewarm. If you dont have a thermometer make it as hot as you would normally drink a hot tea just not so hot that you can burn your tongue from taking a sip
but definitely hotter than just warm.

Thanks for those responses. In the end my wonderful daughter went out to buy some more yeast. But the above information is useful to know if this ever happens again.

Thanks again and have a wonderful shabbat!

If the water's too hot you can kill the yeast and the dough won't rise. This isn't great advice unless you have a kitchen thermometer and check the water temperature. Ideal temp is around 110F which is not hot enough to burn your tongue.
