I fold sweaters and long sleeve t-shirts, but hang button downs. If your closet is more packed, it will get wrinkled easier. And, if your shirt is of a knit fabric is will stretch on a hanger.

It depends on what kind of tops. I wouldn't hang a/t heavy, loose-knit or delicate even if they hang it in the store. it spends a lot less time hanging in the store than it will in your closet. Plain light t-shirts, though, why not? They're not delicate or so heavy that they'll stretch out any time soon. If you really have tons of hanging space and not enough shelf space, go ahead.

till today, I had everything not hanging. I have one big shelf and all the clothes in a jumble (not folded). so today I decided to go through everything and hang it all cuz at least that way its neat and I can find what I need. so I have a closet full of clothes, even t-shirts and sweater tops and skirts and about 4 or 5 garbage bags of clothes for a gemach. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Both... my drawers are full (they are not that big) but I also hang things... I have my own system: long sleeve tops and shirts are hung, and t-shirts made out of pique material (polos) are hung too.. plus some t-shirts that I find hard to iron (just random ones that take me longer... and hanging them really helps)...

Nevertheless I always iron all my shirts before wearing them..

I dont like to hang tops especially knits because then they tend to take on the shape of the hanger and stretch. hangers are for jackets and skirts
