He is fed, changed and in bed. He is screaming. I picked him up and he is perfectly happy. When I put him back in his crib he screams. I'm rubbing his back. How to get him to go to sleep? When I walk out of the room he screams

Take him out for a few minutes. Maybe he needs to make a dirty diaper and doesn't want to go to sleep. Is he teething? Need a bottle? Is soaked?

When I took him out he was perfectly fine in my arms. He was probably overtired and cried when I walked away

Personally I think it’s ok to put down a baby who’s been fed, cleaned, changed etc and let them cry a little. You have to take care of your own sanity too. If this is a new behavior for him, keep in mind that 9 months is when separation anxiety tends to kick in because he is just now figuring out that you are a person separate from him and he notices when you come and go.

Some options you can try:

Sit in a chair next to him reading or doing whatever, but don’t pick him up
Play some soft music for him
Leave the room but pop in every 5 minutes to soothe him/rub his back.
Leave a piece of your clothing in his crib so he can smell your smell

OP, same story every night with my 9 month old. And he still wakes up every 3 hours to nurse 🙈

I dont let my babies cry.
Crying is their way of comunicating. And being close to mommy is a need that needs to be filled.
Read a book, sit in their room and shush them. Show them that you are there.
These years wont last forever

Don’t let your baby cry OP. He is a baby once.

Fed is a need
Changed is a need
Comfort is also a need
They don't stop needing your presence just bc the clock says 7pm... don't let your baby cry. Hold him to sleep, shush pat him, he's only a baby once...
