If your son dorms, how often do you speak? And who calls who?

Is it normal for a mom to call her son in yeshiva every day?

I don't call them unless it's something important.
My older son calls twice a week my second son just once week ( unless he needs something of course ) they did the same when in camp.

My 9th grader I text with multiple times a day and he calls me at least once sometimes twice.
We are very close and I'm happy he feels comfortable sharing things with me.

If that's what the son wants, its normal.

But its also perfectly normal for him not to want that.

Play it by ear.

What if the son senses the mother needs it but is not really the type to schmooze on the phone every day.

Is it right for the mother to keep calling? He's just having nice middos

I think it's amazing if a teenager has that level of middos. I think it's fine for the mother to keep calling, you don't need to schmooze, just say hi and talk for 2 to 3 minutes.

Mine calls once midweek and comes home for Shabbos. I only call him if it’s an emergency. He doesn’t have his own phone. I need to reach him through the yeshiva so I wouldn’t bother him for a non emergency!

I don’t think it has anything to do with being close. I’m actually not so close to my son but when he goes away he calls minimum once a day usually more. When he once in a blue moon missed a day I started panicking .

My oldest is good about calling every erev shabbos and sometimes other times during the week. He only has a shared Yeshiva phone.

My second son who has a cell isn't as good at remembering to call so I try to initiate calls (he can't receive texts during the zman) if I see he hasn't called by a certain time erev shabbos.
Doesn't always work... He's quite distracted with his social life.

my son is very independent. he calls every erev shabbos. in between only if there is specific reason.
and we only call him if there is a specific reason. he doesnt have his own phone as its against yeshiva rules so there is only a public phone. he comes home only once a month for shabbos and he seems quite happy b'h!

My sons both call daily. We speak for a minute or two, just a check in.
I don't usually call bc the yeshiva phones are not conducive, but if there is something urgent I'll call the office and leave a message.

My son is allowed to come home for shabbos meals and stay over Friday night. He dorms locally but it's a far walk.
So we only call if there's an emergency. He has a phone we can text for other important last minute things.
