Hi fellow Mamas,

Plz help me figure out what to feed my 1 year old who loves, loves, loves to eat anything but mushy baby jars!! She's on the small side and I would love to see her gain weight.

She always wants to eat whatever the adults are eating but tends to get constipated very easily. That's why I try to refrain from bread, cereal, rice, and potatoes as much as possible.

Trying to come up with a list of healthy age appropriate foods that are easy to digest, not a choking hazard and not constipating.

All ideas are appreciated!

Try giving whole wheat bread.
Cheerios and milk
Try fruit. Oranges, melon, pears peaches
Stay away from bananas and rice cakes and rice krispies

Magnesium citrate powder mixed in her food will help with her constipation instantly.

When my babies were constipated frequently, I would give some pureed prunes every day, and then they could eat whatever they wanted and seemed to do the trick

Have you offered water? Dehydration can cause constipation. An ounce at a time, with food. This is a baby past the first year so water is safe.

Came back to add this but you beat me to it. I keep my baby drinking bottles or a straw cup in the morning for this reason. Nothing you eat helps without the liquids.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! Taking notes.

Will look into magnesium citrate. How much is safe for her age?

I do give her prune juice but it doesn't always do the trick.

She drinks 2-4 oz at every meal.

The challenge with this age is that they need to eat so often... I feel like I spend half the day prepping food for and feeding her.

And especially since she's skinny, I try to look for nutrition-packed or calorie-packed foods.

Are eggs (scrambled or hard boiled) ok for this age?

We used to give my toddler oatmeal made with prune juice every day. Something about that combination really worked.

Eggs are great, just start slowly to make sure there's no allergy.

What about avocado?
