My 6 year-old is currently screaming in the bathroom saying her stomach hurts. Sounds like she's in labor. This is the 2nd time in about a month in a half. I think it's constipation but she's not really communicating clearly. I don't know what to do.

Try Miralax. Ask your pediatrician to prescribe it and see if it helps first.
If no improvement, take blood work, abdomen ultrasound.

But it ended up being more sludge-like and I don't think she was backed up she is fairly regular from what I can tell.
So far I think this episode is over, but she was screaming for like a 1/2 hour-45 mins.

Gas can be so so painful, but not sure if that could happen in such a young child.

If she has hard stool stuck on the colon, sludge like poop can come out around it. (Encopresis)
There are other incredibly painful possibilities, but that is probably the most common.
Maybe a trip to the pediatrician in the next few days to make sure.

She's eaten all kinds of foods and hasn't really ever had a problem before--the first time being like a month ago (and I kind of chalked it up to yom tov and not regular diet) but now I'm stuck and she doesn't remember what she ate yesterday (I know she didn't eat the regular supper but I'm not sure what she did eat)

Keep a log of what she eats and write down how her bowel movements were each day. There may be a pattern.

It's still rather isolated, I'm just trying to figure out what to do for her when this happens for her in the moment.

I am saying what you would do for an adult... please check in with your pediatrician. For an adult you could use a fleet enema to help get out the stool. Yes, you can still be constipated and have sludge like BMs.

Check it out-
Chances are it’s something simple but I’ve had stomach pain be the strangest things- including strep in the blood and pneumonia and a ruptured spleen
