I also found him creepy and the story line about him weird and disturbing. If I knew other Chanina's or had the name in my family that wouldn't stop me from giving the name. Since he's the only Chanina I've heard of the name makes me very uncomfortable.

Just curious, but how many Hebrew names are monosyllabic? I can think of only one.
Op, I think many people will think of Shrivel when they hear Chanina nowadays.

Also multi syllabic implies more than two, and there are lots of two syllable names:
Avram, Yakov, Moshe, Aron, Yosef, Yair, Yaniv, Yishai, Uri, Ori, Levi, Eitan, Harel, Chanan, David, Yigal, Yona, Ezra, Micha...

I didn’t mean literally one syllable. I prefer 2. My family, our kids are 2 syllables. Personal preference.

there is also the name Chuna which is spelled ches nun alef. not common but I've heard of some people with the name, but someone close to me has that name and he is embarrassed of it and he only uses his other name.

Chanina is a beautiful name.
Love the way it sounds.
Know some with the name.
Used but not that common.
Learn about R’ Chanina in the Gemara. Why wouldn't you want to name for someone that great! Go for it.
Dont know about all these other pop culture references but... L’havdil!
B’Shaah Tova!
(Chananya is beautiful as well and definitely used as is Chananel but it is more uncommon)
