it on or off. It's like something needs to be oiled. Does anyone know what to do? Or who I can call in Brooklyn?

Belt is dying or it’s not leveled

it's the belt. Any appliance repair man should have it in stock to fix it right away.

hopefully its just bad rollers/something caught in blower wheel etc. (can also be a sign of bad bearing, but you hope its not) try Moshe David - good honest repair guy in brooklyn

When mine was making screeching noises it was the rollers. They tend to wear after a while. I ordered a new one online and replaced it myself. Dryers are surprisingly easy to repair by yourself, assuming it's not the motor or heating elements.

how can I troubleshoot and figure out if it's the belt or rollers?

Turn it around and open up the back, then run it and see where the noise is coming from.

thanks. it's stacked on top of the washer and too heavy to turn it around. Any other ideas to figure it out?

Nope, sorry. Mine is also stacked on the washer and it's a pretty big machine in a tight space. I keep a board of plywood on my washer so sometimes when I need to repair the dryer I just rotate the whole board and dryer (it's important to disconnect the vent hose first if you have one). Sometimes I have my dh help me and we pick it up and move it out of the laundry room and onto the kitchen floor.
