[quote="amother [ Cherry ]"]My favorite childhood book was about the mezones house- the cake that ran away when a boy didn’t make a bracha during the class siyum. Would love to get my hands on oy again.
I also loved Adventures in the Mezonos House as a child. I’ve asked about it on imamother before and it seems it’s probably out of print unless I’m wrong. I would love a copy for my own children.

I love the Mimi and Simi books. Another one which is possibly for older children but maybe not is The Happiness Box. The Riki Benenfeld books which someone mentioned above are really great.

I asked about it too, and the authors granddaughter said she may be able to help. I should find that thread and see if she ca help us Smile

A little off topic.

When I read books to my grandkids I say the title and the author ex: "By Ricky Benenfeld".

My granddaughter did not understand the concept and would say "I don't like Ricky Benenfeld"

I wrote and illustrated a picture book for my grand daughter called

"Nechama Leah stays in Bed" by Bubby Schwartz (pseudonym)

My granddaughter understood and started saying "I like Bubby Schwartz" "I like Ricky Benenfeld"

My children loved all the Yossi & Laibel books by Dina Rosenfeld.
Reb yitzhak's Jewel by Rabbi Nosson Scherman and the Secret of the Leaves by VanHande.
The Land of Miroop (the Dinks) forgot the author, but of course that one is out of print.

These are older kids books:

I liked the "Shira" series, 3 books, one called Shira's Summer.

Also another book called "Happy is the Heart" which is out of print.

The book "If Only" about a mother with cancer.

The book "Family for a While" about a girl living with a Foster family.

My DD loved the Bakers Dozen books and bought the whole series.

There were more- the kosher factory with the lard and pea in a lid. Too long ago to remember the names...

I had those! I remember loving them.

I was coming on to cast a vote for the entire Savta Simcha series. But many of the others here would also make my top 10.

My dd 8 is obsessed with the Yael series since she's 5. We have alot of them and it comes with a CD.
The message is nice and the illustrations are adorable!

My mother has the Mezonos House! I borrowed it to read to my kids years ago, they loved it.

She has the Ktonton books, and many other old ones.
Including the one with the train of mitzvos that never ends,
the double decker purple shul bus,
Lost Erev Shabbos in the Zoo
The very best place for a penny
All the Goldie Gold picture books

My very favorite:

1000 guests for Shabbos

I also like Dovi and the Surprise guests

I loved Ketantan too. But found out the author was Conservative though I never
noticed it in the books.

The characters seemed modern orthodox.

My favorites are all the ziggawat books by Ahuva Weinberger. 31 cakes by Loren Hodes, mitzvos aleph to tav, the middos mission books-comes with a cd by orenstein and of course Baruch learns his brachos, Baruch makes a simcha, Baruch learns shabbos by shmuel kunda.

Another enthusiastic vote for "Is it Shabbos Yet?"-my kids love it!
And someone mentioned "Shabbos, Shabbos I love you!", I think? We love this one too. Excellent, rhythmic rhmes and adorable illustrations.
Also, "Hashem loves me". I think it's newer. Gorgeous illustrations, excellent writing, and beautiful message. My DS feels all warm and fuzzy after reading it, so it's great for bedtime.
I'm pretty particular about which rhymes make the cut, and I believe the latter two both do.
