I'm hoping to be able to find a decent camera for a good price now during the holiday season. I'm finding that most of my family photos are taken on my smart phone, but I do need a regular camera for the kids' school performances and other occasions, where smart phones are not allowed.
I'm not very good at photography. I need something easy to use that takes great photos without talent. I really enjoyed the Canon G16 but am open to other brands. I think $500 or less is reasonable.
Any recommendations?

I love my canon G9X which was a bit more than 400.
