If you REMEMBER the 1980s (being born in 1989 doesn't count Very Happy) what things do you remember that were 100% accepted part of life then but these days are definitely not.

I'll go first: Piling kids into a car. 3 seats? Nah! We can fit at least 6 kids back there if we pile them on top of each other

Cabbage patch dolls were a BIG deal. You had to wait for yours to be "born" at a special store in the city

All pile in the back of the station wagon. What horrible memories!! Laugh Made me so nauseous.

Making sure we have change when we go out, so we can get in touch with my parents.

The best secular pop music ever made. Dubbed "The New Romantics", the songs were never trashy, and always showed the greatest admiration and respect towards women.

I also remember my dad's classic Nash Rambler, with no seatbelts in the back seats, and the seats were as soft and wide as a sofa.

If you didn't grow up keeping kosher, does anyone remember Pizza in a Box? When my mom worked late, I would make this for my sister and me.

Meeting a friend downtown. Waiting an hour. They don’t show, you leave. No way to know if they are waiting at the next corner.

Prince
Madonna
Boy George - everyone considered him so outrageous. Pretty tame by today's standards. And his music was unique and nice.

Calling collect and instead of leaving my name, saying “hi mom it’s watergirl call me back at this payphone 555-555-5555”.

Be kind, rewind.

Leg warmers.

Calling collect and instead of saying your name, saying "shik hoisin" (send pants).

Needing quarters for the meters (although that still works). PS - I still have a full pack of quarters in my car.

Oh, so many good memories.

Omg. I was just telling this to my girls the other day. The way we would call from camp. We had to talk so fast before the operator would interrupt. Too funny. They couldn’t get over it and were curious if collect calls still work today. So they actually tried it from school one day. It worked! But was not the same. Operator wasn’t a human being. Was automated.

What about these station wagons that made me so nauseous?? Thinking about it now makes me gag. Oh the smell… maybe because I was the lucky one all the time to sit in the back seat backwards??? And the way we turned that handle to open up the window.

I never did such things but I sure remember the stories about the collect call from "Ich kum nisht"

and the operator saying "uhn fahrvus kumstu nisht?" and many other versions of it
