So this is a completely random list of things that I don't think have been mentioned yet:

Haley's Comet paraphernalia
Sweat bands
Richard Simmons
huge Amana microwave ovens
LA Law
Blockbuster video stores and video vending machines
Betamax machines before they became defunct
People Express Airlines
The JFK Express - Take the train to the plane
Alf
Fame
Duran Duran
Madonna
Bruce Springsteen
Simon and Garfunkel reunion in Central Park
Gorbachev
Down coats
cowboy/girl boots
Back to the Future
Ghostbusters
Entennmans becoming kosher

I could write a parallel list for Israel in the eighties but I think that only a handful of posters would be able to relate Confused

Ramona series
Judy Blume books
Mouse and the motorcycle
Beverly Cleary books in general
the Littles - loved those
In the Bobbsey twins they refer to their household help as "colored" I had never heard the term and remember at the time wondering what color she was - purple? green?

The Betsy Tacy books!

You'd be surprised by how many here lived in Israel in the 80s Wink

Honestly I would be cause most posters on this site aren't really old enough to remember much from that decade and many hadn't even been born yet!
I'm actually shocked that there are so many here who remember the 80's in general, and in such vivid detail.

Using a crayon to fix a tangled tape.

The excitement of picking up developed pictures.

Nothing like the 80s, fun times.

I have siblings born in the 50s, 60s, 70s, & 80s. Most of my toys were hand-me-downs, and my family watched reruns of shows from every decade. For some reason, in my family, the 1980s were crazy busy, and a lot of significant things happened in such a short period of time.

Anyone remembers getting the scholastic news in school? The hit topics then was aids (which was always heavily censored) and the starving children in Africa. The photos of the emaciated children still haunts me.

Also, who else grew up with Richard scarry books? I loves the illustrations.

Shaker knit sweaters
Le Sportsac! THE name for purses, totes, velcro wallets, even pencil cases
painting your nails with glue, letting it dry and peeling it off
Lacoste for those who could afford it and there was a cheaper copy with a tiger
rabbit's foot keychains
shiny vinyl pencil cases with various characters

All of a Kind family sure! Loved Gertie she was so cute. And when Ella got married. Loved how the mother hid pennies so they'd clean well. I must have read those books a zillion times

Did we actually get 15 pages in and no one mentioned my 80's obsession, Jem and the Holograms? Pleeeeeease tell me there is another Jem fan here!

OMG, ME, ME, ME!!! I can still sing the whole theme song to that show! And I had the Jem doll with the flashing pink earings! Can we be friends and sing the Jem and the Holograms song together?

My other favorite was Shera Princess of Power! My brother loved He Man, GI Joe, and Transformers!

Sure and chinese jump rope - I think in US it was ching chang or something.
cats cradle (I actually still remember how to do it!!!)
all kind of jump rope rhymes
all kind of bouncing ball games
4 corners
skip it
little super balls

Interesting how many of these (incl the sock one) my mother played, and how many my girls do too. Although they have way more complicated rhymes for chinese jump rope

Despite me loving all of the book references, I haven't seen anyone mention.... MacGyver.
He was the ultimate of cool. A few years ago I saw part of one episode...let's just say it was not as cool as I remembered. But at the time, duct tape and a swiss army knife could solve all problems.

Boondoggle I think also called gimp or lanyard? Thin plastic lace braided or woven together. We made bracelets and hairclips. There were several different types - square, circle, spiral staircase, butterfly, cobra, zipper

I think I'm gonna go start a 90's thread, now!
