They've just banned non-Israelis from entering the country. Again.

And events with more than 50 attendees are now subject to tav yarok requirements.

But they're keeping the economy open.

ETA They've only closed the borders for two weeks. Then they'll reassess. Of course, they could decide to extend it, but they haven't announced an open ended closure.

MOST anti-vaxxers don't think corona is nothing. They know that it's very dangerous and that many people have died. In fact, they probably know someone who died. They just don't think that the vaccine is the magical solution.

Really? Cuz a lot of the garbage stated on here is that it's no worse than the flu and miscarriage happens.

Lets look at the bright side, this is the best greek alphabet lessons we are getting and all for free. I wonder how far down the alphabet we will get.

They're skipping letters. They didn't use Nu because it sounds too much like new and would get confusing. They didn't use Xi because it is a common surname in China, including that of their Prime Minister, and it was felt that it might be insulting. And there have been a few minor variants that we never really heard much about so we didnt learn those letters.

There are 24 letter in the Greek alphabet, and we're already more than half way through. I'm wondering what alphabet they'll use next. (In seriously advanced mathematics, if they use up all the letters in the English and the Greek alphabets, the third option is the Hebrew alphabet. I don't really want that to be applied to Corona.)

Well it is a statistical fact that approximately 95% of covid deaths are from people 45 or over. Based on that alone it would be reasonable for people under that age to live normally instead of shutting down the economy and telling school children they should stay home. Can you clearly tell me why governments haven't acknowledged this?

It's also a statistical fact that Covid adversely impacts obese people. Again, governments should have campaigned for people to get healthier instead of giving people doughnuts for getting a shot that frankly has been far less effective than advertised. (FWIW I'm fully vaccinated.)

That's so cool, can you explain more about that?

I only got the 3rd shot because Im pregnant and DH and I were concerned. We've spoken a lot about vaccines and new coming out and we agreed we would not get another shot.

I'm really pissed off right now. Lots of you will claim that Corona is nothing but there is data that it has really affected unborn babies and pregnant women. I so badly want this child, we've been waiting so long.

I don't want a new variant to worry about. I want my child to be born healthy and alive.

Many young people live with older people in their household. Many older people are still very much part of the workforce. Obesity isn't solved through campaigns to get them healthier. Need I go on?

Everyone is tired of this. I would argue that the people who have been following the recommendations are more tired than those who haven't.

I pray that this variant proves to be the one we've been hoping for: milder, like the common cold, so we can sit back and treat this like just another pesky winter virus.

Here we go again. They said the delta was super contagious and dangerous in children and bh it hasn't proven true. If it is so dangerous why isn't Fauci limiting travel from those places where it's coming from like many other countries are?

Why isn't Fauci limiting travel? Dr. Anthony Fauci is an infectious disease specialist and immunologist. He is the Chief Medical Advisor to the President. During Covid, he has never, NOT ONCE, made a policy. Making policy is NOT HIS JOB.

I agree with many of your points, but to push the vaccine across the board on everyone and anyone regardless of their circumstances, age, living and work conditions, and whether they have anti bodies, is not driven by science. Do you disagree?

A 30 yr old security guard with anti bodies working alone outdoors shouldn't have the same guidance as a 60 year who doesn't have anti bodies and works indoors in a crowded area with other people above 50.

I also hate that debate is censored. I saw an interview with a doctor with a phd from Stanford who posted a video on YouTube stating his opinion on why he believes masks on children are ineffective. The video was taken down. This is precisely why people don't trust the government on anything. We know that opposing opinions are blocked and shutdown. Whether it's about the origins of the virus, or the effectiveness of vaccines and masks, nobody is permitted to disagree with what the government advises.

Okay so this caMe out on the news

The South African doctor who first sounded the alarm on the Omicron variant of the coronavirus said that its symptoms are “unusual but mild” in healthy patients — but she’s worried the strain could cause complications in the elderly and unvaccinated.

But other reports said that vaccine not effective for this variant! My gosh delta was supposed to be so bad yet the symptoms are mostly mild. I believe this is all politics if they would start treating it like anything else and resume normal life it would be like anything else. But now NY canceled all elective surgeries due to an uptick in cases and a shortage of nurses duh not everyone bought the garbage if vaccinating and quit. It’s never ending. And Fauci really gotta go!

DH and I were praying for something like that too.

Apparently - and we heard this, so we looked up the research and it's true - COVID-19 affects the nervous system. So, there went that. Even mild cases can come back to bite later on because this crosses the blood-brain barrier.

No hopes for common cold there, unfortunately.

On the rest of you post I 100% agree with you.

No one really knows anything yet.

The strain was identified a week ago. That's not enough time to know anything other than that it exists and has lots of mutations.

B”H reports coming out now that it presents with mild symptoms.
Would think everyone welcomes that good news.

It presents with mild symptoms FOR THE FIRST WEEK.

With NONE of the variants did the number of severe cases or hospitalizations appear within ONE WEEK.

The mutation was first identified on November 9. That's 19 days ago - enough time that if the variant were truly much deadlier than Delta it would be noticeable.

Oh joy, another thread about Covid that's 95% "amother".

Can't help but notice that one of the main arguments popping up here is not only nonsensical, but actually self-contradicts.

"They're hyping up the new variant to get people to vaccinate"

and

"The vaccine is ineffective against the variant; I know because I read it in the news."

Pick one. Because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to say that a government-friendly "they" is doing this to encourage vaccines, when government-friendly news sources like NPR and WaPO -

(yes, I'm talking about the American government; I think it's time to admit that the idea that this is a global issue involving multiple governments is never going to catch on on this site)

- are explicitly saying that the vaccine might not protect against this variant. "Get the vaccine, it might not help at all"... not the best marketing slogan, that.

New variants always make me a strange mix of worried and hopeful, since they can go in either direction.

Of course there's the possibility that a new variant can be more deadly and harder to treat, like happened with the Spanish flu.

But OTOH, there's also the possibility that a new variant can spread faster while being less deadly, which is what ultimately "ended" the Spanish flu. And is probably our best chance re: covid, too.

So... here's hoping that Omicron is super contagious, and incredibly mild. It would be a nice hanukah miracle.

This is my first time posting on this thread, but actually both are occurring at the same time. People are being urged to vaccinate now because "you never know, it might even help you against the new variant" despite no evidence that it will.
