Yes with a padded non slip liner, to protect the cabinets and the dishes.

Modern kitchen cabinet shelves are clad with Formica which wipes down.

Lining shelves is from a time when shelves were wood and not easily cleaned.

My wooden shelves aren’t actually wood?

I obviously don't know how your cabinets are constructed but older cabinets just had plywood shelves that were painted. Those were the kinds of shelves I grew up with and had in my kitchen until I remodeled and many of the kitchens in apartments I rented had wood shelves. They needed to be lined because unlike formica, painted wood doesn't clean up as easily.

My new shelves are solid wood but they are clad with formica and not painted. The interiors are painted. Most people have white but I opted for teal blue formica and paint to match the tiles.

The uppers that have glass doors have stained wood interiors to match the exterior of the doors.

Yes.
Because it’s easier before Pesach to remove paper and clean an otherwise clean shelf than to clean a shelf that’s had a year to acquire a patina of dust, kitchen grime, oil and honey drips, grease from the bottom of a poorly-washed pot, etc.

When you remove the contact paper the shelf is sticky, How do you clean that off?

My kitchen is about 8 months old and we had never lined The shelves. They wipe off super super easily.

By not using g contact paper to line them I the first place.

Use some rubberized non slip lining.

I don’t use Contact, which isn’t paper btw but plastic. I use Reynolds freezer paper, plastic side down. If it were plastic side up, things wouldn’t slide well.
