True history nerds may enjoy googling the Farragut family's naval history-his father was of Spanish extraction and fought on our side in the Revolutionary War. |
I would not have remembered the name, but it was fun trying to guess which war or significant battle.

"We have met the enemy and they are ours" was said by Perry at the Battle of Put-in Bay (Battle of Lake Erie), in 1813, during the War of 1812. As far as I recollect, the battle is depicted on the back of one of Ohio's historical quarters.

Critical-as it was the last time the confederacy tried to invade the north. |
Final answer to my military questions" The other big event of July 4, 1863 was the Battle of Vicksburg. It cut the Confederacy in half, and was the beginning of the end.

The Open Door Policy
What did Teddy Roosevelt win a Nobel Prize for?
What's the backstory behind the American national anthem?
Where was the White City and why was it built? |
Just checked through everything, and will answer those that weren't done yet.
Open Door Policy was the proposed US policy with China once it had been carved into spheres of influences by European other countries. It was turned down by the other countries until the US helped put down the Boxer Rebellion.
Teddy Roosevelt won the prize for negotiating the Treaty of Portsmouth that ended the Russo-Japanese war.

As in, his friend from WWI and the co-owner in his habedashery (sp?). He had never asked Truman for anything before.
Also, you know, the Russians.

Schism in Hungarian Jewry |
I know Haym Solomon helped to finance the American Revolution
The Disputation was the Ramban defending Judaism (and the Gemara) against the Church.
Was the Schism the Chassidim /Chasam Sofer era or something entirely different?

Yep on all!
Wasn't sure if I should do the Jewish or secular spelling for Haym...
It wasn't specifically Chassidim AFAIK; it was Hungarian Orthodox Jewry led by the Chasam Sofer.
