I’m looking for a new cholent recipe preferably with no sauces or processed ingredients maybe a drop of ketchup does anyone have one? I’ve been using processed ingredients but we completely stopped a month ago but my cholent isn’t as good

The cholent recipe from Chantzyw on Instagram is delicious. Look at her saved highlights, the recipe is under Cholent Diaries.

I know you wrote exact but I do beans, barley, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, meat, potatoes, kishka splash of ketchup or small tomato sauce and water to cover easy and yum!

Mine gets rave reviews, I put it up Friday morning.

Sauté a large onion, slice a couple cloves garlic, place in crock pot insert, add 4-6 Yukon gold potatoes peeled and halved, a strip or two of bone-in flanked, a package of soaked navy beans and a quarter cup short grain brown rice. Add water and cover contents by about an inch. Spice with salt, pepper and paprika. Let cook on high until the zman, then turn down to low until shabbos morning.

If you want easy, I might be the winner. Barley, cholent mix beans, potatoes, garlic, flanken, salt and pepper. Zeh hu. Gets devoured.

Mine is kind of adapted from Jaime gellers. But it has soup mix. People love it.

2 onions
5 garlic cloves
some cholent meat - I use beef shin, lamb, or stew meat - or a mixture. Any stewing beef works, but a lot of fat is good. Lamb is amazing if you have.
6-7 large potatoes
a cup of barley
salt, pepper and soup mix (any flavour but veg or chicken is good)
kishke optional (I can't buy it where I live)
Beef bones optional.

PUT A LINER IN THE SLOW COOKER. brown meat and onions and garlic in a pan. (you can probably skip this step) Throw into slow cooker. add potatoes, water, barley, salt, pepper and soup mix. Leave on high till shabbos than turn to medium.

Sautéing a large onion will give your Chulent exceptional flavor (with right amount of salt).

I use 4 cubes sautéed onion and 4 frozen cubes garlic as a shortcut
1 bag Chilent mix, 1/4 c.barley, potato-optional
Meat-flanken is the best, marrow bone optional
Salt pepper paprika onion and garlic powder
Cover with water. Add more water as it cooks down and before shabbos.

If you like it faintly sweet, caramelize the onions first, and then add two tablespoons of black molasses. The flavor is subtle, but adds an extra dimension.

This makes a smallish cholent:
2 onions
3-4 potatoes
1/4 cup barley
1 can heinz beans
4 cups liquid (can do water but chicken soup is better- either homemade or in a box from the store)
Meat
Any spices you want (I do onion garlic paprika and cinnamon)

My neighbor adds sweet potato to her chulent. I tried it and it certainly adds a lot of flavor.

This is really good. Add a hunk of meat on top and leave it there.

Following... I don’t link my cholent and am convinced it has to do with which meat you put in.
Which meat is good for cholent? Any leads?

I cook it high-medium for 3-4 hours then low over shabbos. Make sure to keep stirring when on medium high because barley can stick to bottom
And burn

Motherhood -
I also didn’t like my Chulent until we tried a different kind of meat.
It made a huge difference!

It was heavenly with lamb.
But I think the other one I liked was cheek meat. (?)
