An organization is honoring my husband
It will be an exclusive event for 50 couples/donors
The invitation says cocktail attire

It’s between 2 outfits
1 is a silky leopard pleated dress that has a side bow on the shoulder by the high collar

2 it’s a black top with big puffy black organza sleeves that I can wear with a black pencil skirt that has a 1/2” organza ruffle- it’s not a matching outfit so the black is not exactly the same and the ruffle on the skirt is a different sheer material The skirt is long enough and the ruffle is minimum just to give a little trim

I just finished wearing the leopard dress and 1 of the 50 couples was at that event, BUT I look really good in it

I don’t know if the all black is fancy enough but on the other hand it is all black
I would wear this to a sheva Berachot or a Shul Shabbat NIGHT dinner.

If the blacks aren’t an exact match, skip that outfit unless you can wear a contrasting belt that will separate the two and camouflage the mismatch.

Thanks
I’m still not sure of the leopard dress

IMHO- it looks better on me since the top is not so tight like in the pic, but it’s this exact same dress I bought in Israel- in Banana

If neither are good I’ll keep looking in my closet

To be honest, I'd keep looking and try to find something a little dressier. It's cocktail attire and your husband is being honored. You classified these outfits as something you'd wear to a shabbos night shul dinner. I think you need something new and fancier.

The leopard dress is lovely.

It seems as though you are leaning towards the leopard dress and the only reason you hesitate is because ONE woman saw you wearing the dress at a previous occasion.

I really don't think you should worry about that. Even if she remembers you wore the dress, why kind of crass individual would she be if she thought that it was a terrible social faux pas to wear a beautiful dress more than once.

Are you worried that she will think that you are a nebech? Or that you didn't think the occasion important enough to buy a new dress?

Kate Middleton is known to wear the same dress on different occasions and she is photographed and pictures published all over the world. Very Happy

I think leopard dress is great. Doesnt matter than someone saw you wearing it. You feel comfortable and confidant in it you should deff go for it. Mazel tov on the honor.

I wore it just yesterday

Also does cocktail mean black or dark solid maybe even detailed with beading
I’m not sure what cocktail really means

In other wards is the dress considered cocktail
I’ve worn it to Shul on Rosh Hashana

This is the black top and skirt
https://I.imgur.com/34LKXTw.jpg

This is the one I would wear to a Shabbat Night Shul dinner

I m just clueless what it means cocktail attire since we are all frum ppl.
It may simply be a nice way of saying that only cocktails and finger food will be served

Cocktail dresses tend to be straight and sparkly. Look at Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, etc. to get an idea. They’re dressier than what you’re considering. Of course, hair/makeup go a long way.

It’s not a wedding
It’s an ORGANIZATION dinner at a restaurant
The restaurant is trendy now because it’s new
Asian style
Out of town if that makes a difference

Am I better off with a sequins top with that skirt

The pic doesn’t give it justice, but it is an old top not sure if it’s out of style

I love both outfits but they are both underdressed for an event that specifies "cocktail attire" on the invitation, especially considering that you're the wife of the honoree.

cocktail dress is the female version of saying black tie affair. I would say go with whichever you prefer and feel better in. They both sound fine. As women we often overthink what we're wearing.

When I go to dinners the honorees usually do wear wedding clothing. Meaning elegant wedding guest not baal simcha/gown but more dressy than either option your showing. More like the top from the second outfit with a long organza skirt. the skirt you're showing just looks like a basic pencil skirt even with the ruffle.

All the 50 couples are honorees
It’s an exclusive dinner ONLY for the honorees
BTW- I’m in my upper 50s if that makes a difference

IMNSHO the leopard is not a cocktail dress. and not dressy enough for an occasion on which your husband is being honored.

The black top is closer.

A cocktail dress is something short of a formal dress or gown, but more than just "dressy"/Shabbos.

These are cocktail dresses

You could get away with the leopard as a guest, maybe. But not as the wife of the honoree.

Really so fancy
I must be really clueless then

As I said above
The dinner is ONLY for all the honorees
All the 50 couples are the honorees
The rest of the guests are only invited to an outdoor “cocktail” party

I would think you should wear long, or like the midi length that is all the rage nowadays. Even a simple dress is much more elegant in long.
Cocktail attire means like what you would wear to a wedding, afaik.
