I am not anti vaccines, but don’t like to give any extra shots. She is under 4 therefore needs it for school.Which one is safer? Nasal spray or shot?

The nasal spray is a live vaccine. The shot is inactivated. The former typically carries more side effects generally.

There isn't much to choose between them in terms of their value in preventing flu.
The nasal spray, as said above, carries a slightly higher risk of side effects. On the other hand, if a child (or parent) is afraid of needles, the nasal spray is much easier for them, and might be worth it.
Side effects for either are not normally a big issue.

My son got nasal spray and got flu symptoms right away. The next 2 years he got the shot and was fine. Never knew the spray was live, but now it makes sense

Don't know where you are based. Where I live it is approved from age two upwards, until age fifty.

That may be his own ideas. The package insert from the Flumist nasal spray says that it is approved from the age of two.

The nasal spray flu vaccine is approved for use in healthy non-pregnant people, 2 through 49 years old. People with certain medical conditions should not get the nasal spray flu vaccine. |
