I love all winter squash-butternut, acorn, kabocha etc. Can anyone recommend a good knife to cut them? All I have are my regular knives for chopping vegetables, and they really don't work for squash. Would appreciate links if anyone can post.

TIA!

What are your "regular" knives.

In my experience a large Chef's knife works well. You do have to maintain the blade of any knife as there is nothing as dangerous to work with as a dull knife. A knife should be honed after every two or three times. There are excellent home sharpening appliances which are small but I also have mine professionally sharpened at least once a year.

I have a Santuko knife which I prefer for most prep work but I also have a large heavy weight CHef's knife which I use for very tough jobs like winter squash.

You need a non serrated chef's knife. Buy a size that you're comfortable handling (I don't like too big).

Yes not machete sized LOL

My mother also had a cleaver for dealing with heavy bones.

Not the answer you’re looking for, but I cheat. I microwave (or occasionally bake) whole for a few minutes, then cut it. It’s much easier. I do the same thing for sweet potatoes.

Be careful no matter which knife you use.
