My son was seeing a pediatric neurologist and taking meds for years for ADHD, he stopped taking the meds for a couple of years, but now in college, he finds he needs it again. I asked the pediatric neurologist for a recommendation for an adult neurologist, but they don't give any, they just send the records and said to look at the Jewish Board website. Can anyone please recommend an adult neurologist in Brooklyn (or one that's willing to do telehealth-even better)?I'm hoping for a quick appointment & medication, we already have the diagnosis, TIA!!

I would really appreciate it if anyone has any recommendations! I called Relief for a referal nd it takes two weeks to get to speak to someone!

Would the pediatric neurologist be willing to see your son? Sometimes pediatric specialists will continue to follow their patients for a little while after they age out

I started seeing Dr. Barry Holzer in a similar situation. I’ve been seeing him over zoom since the pandemic started.

My impression is that, for adults, ADHD medication is usually prescribed by a psychiatrist.

You need a psychiatrist although some pcp will prescribe this.

Generally psychiatrist s prescribe for adults and once you settled on the right meds and the right dose, you can just get it prescribed by your regular doctor.

Can someone please recommend a neurologist/psychiatrist that takes insurance. We don't need someone amazing to diagnose, just someone to monitor medicine. I have all of his records with the diagnosis. Video option for appointment would be a very big plus because if my son's crazy schedule!

Bump-my last attempt to find someone who takes insurance, I didn't realize it could be so expensive! Maybe a clinic that you've had a good experience with?

Dr. Adina Alport is an amazing frum adult neurologist at Methodist Hospital in Park Slope. She definitely takes most insurances. I have no experience with ADHD, so no idea if she prescribes those meds or if you need a psychiatrist for that (which she's not).
