The only gym in my area is both genders. Am I allowed to do use it if I’m fully tzniusdik in dress but there might be men around? Husband and I are trying to improve our fitness. Me because I just had a baby! Sorry, I’m BT and don’t know who to ask these things! It seems like a trivial question for a rav. We’re just plain frum. LOR is yeshivish and we usually hold by him, for context . Yes, clearly I live in the middle of nowhere, not somewhere with lots of women’s gyms. Mad

Nothing you need clarity on should be too trivial to discuss with your Rav.

I go to a mixed gym. Im not yeshivish though - yeshivish people probably wouldn’t do that.

And you are going to get different answers from different people depending on where they are in the religious spectrum.

I personally wouldn’t go to a mixed gym but that doesn’t mean I would think it’s wrong to go if you are dressed appropriately.

You should ask your LOR.

I wouldn't go even if dressed appropriately. People see your body moving.

Some suggestions

- go walking with your husband (and baby!)

- download an exercise video

- get a machine that you would both enjoy

I wouldn't.

Could you get a treadmill or something at home instead?

I go to a mixed gym in gym clothes. I go someplace way far from where I live so no one knows me.

I don't think it's too trivial to discuss with your LOR at all. Exercise is an important component of physical and mental health.

Personally, I think a lot depends on what you specifically want to do at the gym. Doing upside down splits standing on your head is really not comparable to walking on a treadmill if we are talking about tznius.

I do it, and so does my husband. We go to serious exercise places; no one is scantily clad or flirting.

I think it’s fine if you are tznius. Taking care of your health is a mitzvah.

There's no such a thing as not scantily clad women in a mixed gym. I don't think I've ever seen a non jewish women exercising in anything other than a cropped tank top which is basically a sports bra.

No, you can't. You can get some form of exercise, but for many of us, that would be objectively inferior to the types of exercise we can do at a gym, and it really just doesn't cut it.

I do, physical activity is so important for health (physical and mental). I'm dressed fine. there aren't other options (tiny apartment, cold winters, only mixed gyms).
