I had a bad overbite before braces and had a tongue thrust.
I was evaluated at school for speech therapy and was told to wait after I got my braces off to start therapy.
The only person to explain to me what it was, was my orthodontist. She explained what it was and that it what was causing my slight lisp. After that appointment I started consciously making an effort to position my tongue correctly at all times. When I understood the issue I could then actually do something about it. Unlike when people just pointed it out without offering a solution.
I never ended up getting speech therapy and am fine, but think that I might have gained something from it.
