I thought I ordered kohlrabi but I got rutabaga OK... I get it... it is not the season and I'm a bit tired and overwhelmed.
So I'm having my parents and brother and grandmother over on shabbos lunch, what can I make with rutabaga? Thinking of roasting it or something.
TIA

Celeriac and rutabaga are not the same thing, but they are both root vegetables and can be cooked similarly. You can cube them and roast them with some olive oil and spices. You can make a puree with either of them and serve like mashed potatoes. Celeriac can be sliced thinly and used in salads without cooking, but no rutabaga.

Yeah, rutabaga and celeriac are different....I love cooking with celeriac. Rutabaga....it's like if a turnip and a cabbage got married and made a really big turnip that smells even more pungent than cabbage. lol It's like the Liger of the root vegetable world, but it's not actually a hybrid.

Put a piece of it into your chicken soup. It will impart a delicious flavor.

I think some rutabaga would be good in chicken soup.
And roasted is probably pretty good too. I know people who love rutabaga....but I don't. I also don't like beets but still make them for others because I'm the weirdo. lol
(and I'm really not a picky eater despite what this sounds like)

I use them occasionally like potatoes. Large pieces cooked with a roast along with other root veggies and onions, or just cut up and roasted with onions as a side, like roasted potatoes. Used them in soups, even in my cholent a few times.

I really like it roasted! Cut it in bite-size pieces and roast in olive oil with a little nutmeg and salt. It's nice in a mix with carrots and parsnips.
