I think I read some or all as a teen. Seem to have the impression there's a lot of Xian ideas subtly presented.

Can anyone confirm?

Isn't the whole Aslan sacrificing himself thing a parallel to J?

I read the Narnia books and did not pick up on the xtian allegory because I was not familiar
with xtianity.

To me it was just another fantasy.

An xtian child might pick up the similarities but I don't think a frum child would.

I didn't pick up on it as a kid but did when I re-read as a teen.

My experience reading the Narnia books as a child was the same as what bestbubby describes. Only later did I hear about the Xian parallels.

IOW as an adult (who likes reading teen lit because clean) will I enjoy them? And will any of my kids (varying levels of censorship) appreciate them for my grandkids?

They are more for kids than teens....but you might enjoy them anyway. As to your kids, they should read them themselves and decide.

Subtly? Smile

Tolkien thought he wasn’t subtle. He thought Narnia was an inelegant mishmash of mythologies and allegories.

Too bad, C.S. Lewis is awesome. I wrote my master’s thesis on him so I can answer any questions. He’s my favorite writer.

I read it a very long time ago, so I really don’t remember. Is there anything else?

Was that meant as a Christian allegory or were the initials coincidental and you're reading too much into it? I read the outsiders so many times as a teen and never noticed anything...

I would let my kids read Narnia. I didn't know it was Christian allegory until it was pointed out to me. How would a regular frum kid know? You need to know Christianity to recognize the allegory.
