What was the youngest age your child started taking adhd medication?
I feel like a terrible mother asking the dr for meds already 😥
But it runs in the family and my child is completely out of control

Caffeine has a similar effect.

Maybe try giving your child some caffineited coffee in the morning.

No harm in broaching the subject with the doctor. I think ours actually recommended it to us for our son at 5, but we waited until 6. It made a huge difference immediately, BH.

From what I understand, caffeine is NOT the same.

Op my heart breaks for you. It is not easy to have a child with ADHD.
Have you tried cutting out the sugar and chemicals such as food coloring that are known to cause severe hyperactivity?

From my experience, the meds had such horrible long term effects that I have learned the hard way to try everything natural before going that route again.

I was given those drugs as a child, and I would never give them to my children. It's a violation of a person's entire being.

Caffeine will help with hyperactivity, impulsivity, and focus?

Did your six year old have any side effects from the meds?

As a long time preschool teacher I have a lot of experience with this. Now Drs are giving it to children as young as five. I have seen miracles. But please take him to a competent dr for diagnosis and not someone who prescribes it like candy. You got this !

B"H no side effects, other than some appetite suppression. It's been a game changer for him. He can concentrate in school, less impulsivity, better able to control his emotions, etc. He did have decreased appetite for a while prior to starting treatment for something else (medicine with increased appetite side effect, so now it balances out).

For some children, yes.

Similar to Ritalin.

It is worth a try.

Certainly safer than a prescription drug.

Your child has candy only once a month?!?
I would love to hear what her daily food diet is and how you got her teachers to not dump six pounds of candy per chart.

Me too!
But I didnt actually HAVE ADHD the school basically forced my parents to take me to someone they recommended. To this day my mom believes all my problems are my add. They are actually because of the drugs I had to take from when I turned 6 till 14 after that I just threw the stuff down the toilet.

Curious about how you manage that too. But even if candy is just once a month, there are lots of other foods that can cause or exacerbate adhd symptoms.

If a mother feels she can't handle it and gives her child meds is one thing.

What bothers me is this comment.

We have a classroom of 30 kids. 10 are natuy calm and tame. 10 are hyperactive and are on meds because their parents can't ha dle them. The other 10 are fighting with the school and refusing meds.
Exaggerated to make a point.

Idea is that our school system is just that. A system.
They want one teacher (or two teachers) managing a bunch of little health jumpy kids. They want them sitting like robots. Like those 10 calm kids. Guess what. Hashem didn't have that in mind when he created different personalities. He never needed 30 robots.
Finally, those same schools dump bag loads of candy on those said kids. They serve them God knows what garbage for lunch and then expect those kids to sit nicely.

I started my oldest on guanfacine at 5 1/2. It was not enough. We added strattera at the end of 1st grade. It is my biggest regret that I waited so long. I could have saved him a lot of suggeting if I didn’t wait so long.
