If someone is separated but legally married is there any way they can qualify for things like medical insurance or food stamps? I am sure it won't work in my case but I am curious if it exists in general and maybe it can be helpful to other women. I'm referring to when the husband has too many assets and income but the woman’s income would really qualify her.

Would have also been a question for pandemic unemployment but that's over.

Are there any current income or assets on your name?

Yes. You can testify that you've separated and that you're financially not joint anymore and qualify.

If you’re located in Brooklyn try reaching out to Nachas

No, but maybe I can call them for information since I am in NYS. What is their number?

When I was separated I was able to get Medicaid. I was told if I file income taxes separately than I could get Medicaid.

Food stamps was too much of a hassle, I remember, so I didn't apply. I don't remember the details with food stamps.
