I also remember only one girl from my class going to Florida on winter break. It wasn't the norm back then.
What was the norm was having winter break at the same time as the public schools, which meant my mom had the same vacation days we kids had. We would spend a day in the city, but that was about it.
Now, DH and I both have our winter breaks the last week of December, and yeshiva break has always been an issue.
But my kids are grownand don't resent the fact that we only had/have family vacations in the summer.
I didn't go to Florida until I was in college, and honestly, I wasn't impressed. I've had so much more fun in many other locales without the huge crowds.
