Looking into purchasing a quality dining room table, higher end quality . The lacquer table top finish is beautiful. I am concerned about whether it is impractical and will scratch/or damage easily. Color would be a darker walnut, my dining room is bright and gets alot of sunlight.

The other option is considering matt and using glass table protector.

Any comments or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Can you do glass table protector on the high gloss table?

I keep my tablecloth on the table all week.
We had a walnut high gloss not too high end table
We had a cushy table protector a tablecloth and a heavy plastic (not disposable)
15 yrs later it still looked brand new
The legs did not but the top looked perfect
Again I never left it uncovered

Also ask them if you can purchase insurance
That will cover scratches

Thank you for your response, we would prefer to keep the tabletop uncovered during the week.

I assume that there would be too much glare with glass on top of a lacquer finish in a sunny room. But then again I have no experience with that.

Lacquer will show every speck of dust, smudge and fingerprint.

I have glass top on top of gloss finish wood table.
I’ve had it 16 years. We enjoy seeing our beautiful table.
But our table is used daily for family activities (homework, coloring, work). The glass is always dirty.
When things spill it goes tender the glass which is heavy to lift and clean under.
The glass breaks. We replace every few years snd it is expensive $$$$
