My cleaning lady was always paid in cash, and whenever she had to renew her rent I would write a letter for her stating how much she earns. Now her landlord wants a paper trail for her earnings so she asked to be paid by check.
I tried explaining that she will have to pay taxes. She said she knows but I don’t think she understands. I don’t want to go the whole 1099, payroll tax route but I do want to protect myself. Does anyone know if there is insurance I can get to protect domestic employees, or anything else I can do to cover myself without putting her on payroll?

I believe my renter's insurance covers injuries to domestic employees up to a certain amount.

People don't give 1099s. Businesses give 1099s.
And you need insurance for her just as much if she declares her income or not.
