Do you cover/protect the sofa when toilet training?

And if so with what?
With my first we had a leather couch that I did not care as much about and he did not have any accidents on it anyway. I care more about this one & it will be harder to clean.
I also think it will be more likely that this child will have an accident on the sofa.
Is it weird to put some kind of pee pad down when she sits on it while we are potty training? Has anyone done this? Will the regular dog pee pads absorbant enough?
