Hi, would love to hear specific book titles / series suggestions that are wholesome, clean, not scary and appropriate to read to a bright and sensitive five year old.
Open to both Jewish and secular books, short stories or chapter books.
I've already checked out the list on Chinuch.org
Thanks!

I've read the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle series to my 6 year old and he loves them! Also, Beezus and Ramona and Ramona the Pest are both great reads!

I recently did this for my second grader and I'm really happy...
I searched on eBay for a "level two books lot" and purchased a lot (as in a bulk buy) of 90 some level two books for about $80, including shipping. I went through them and weeded out the ones that were tv super hero type books or holiday related (less than 10 in total). And I'm really happy with the result! There as so, so many very cute and out of print stories and short chapter books at this grade level. Each one would have to be found separately on Amazon and each is $5-$7 at least. Some of them I remember reading many years ago (like the Frances books, and Young Cam Jansen). Imo, it was a great buy.

Sorry - am new to the site so don't know how to reply to individual posts yet.
Yes, I've seen the kosherbooks.org site. I think it's basically the list from chinuch.org. I didn't see many suggestions for this age. Thanks.
Thanks as well to everyone for their suggestions - am going to check them out iyH!

If you're reading out loud, get a few levels higher as they can understand more than they're capable of reading. While the average 5 year old probably isn't reading Magic Tree House (I know there are exceptions!) usually kids that age love hearing those types of stories.
