My 9 year old loves sewing. She hand stitches and uses a $40 children's sewing machine as well. She's very creative with her ideas and creations, but they are very crudely put together. I'd like her to take classes to develop her skill and passion but she takes that as an insult or that I think she doesn't know what she's doing. 😆 She said she'd like to try a pattern. I'd like something really simple and easy to figure out, since I don't sew and can't assist.
This looks easy but I know nothing about the company and if they make easy to use first time patterns. Also, DD is a size size 14 so this size 8 pattern won't do.
Any ideas or links? We'd be most appreciative. 🫂

Good for you for encouraging DD in the way she wants to learn (on her own).

Sorry, don't know easy patterns - don't sew.

PS Maybe there are sewing videos on YouTube?

Private lessons would be good for her. Maybe someone here can give a recommendation. Where do you live?

We're in Brooklyn. I wanted her to do that. She refuses and is insulted at the suggestion. 😆 I've also found YouTube videos for her and she really dislikes watching them or following along. She just has to do this on her own. Laugh

ETA: If we have an easy pattern for her size, we may be able to bring it to grandma and have Babi give some pointers as DD cuts and sews.

Please don't push her or insult her. It may backfire. Wait til she is ready to ask for help. Just support, admire her work as is and keep loving her to pieces.

She can make herself a skirt with rubber in waist. It’s easy and no pattern just goes by measurement. You can find a YouTube video on it. Another fun thing to make is a pillowcase jumper. It’s also very simple and fun and can google pattern.

She's done similar without a rubber waist. She makes everything's skin tight on her body and then has trouble removing it and then can't put it back on at another date. A pattern will give her some direction.

I think that pattern will be hard for her because it involves interfacing and buttonholes--does the machine have a buttonhole maker?

I would suggest finding a pattern for a dirndl skirt, but know that this involves a zipper.

Thanks. Can you help me find a pattern that is more swing style since she doesn't have a small waist? Made out of stretch material or that can be made with an elastic.

I don't know what you mean by swing style. But I can tell you that sewing with stretchy material, like jersey, on a regular machine is going to bind the fabric at the seams and make it not stretchy. I have made many skirts with elastic waists, like this: https://sewguide.com/how-to-sew-skirt/

Thank you that looks good! I can going to try to help her by following these instructions. .
If anyone has a link for such a pattern, we'd be grateful.

What about a class like this? You can spin it in a way that it's not "lessons" but rather teaching how to make that specific pattern

I think creating those ruffles is going to be hard for her.

Option A of that pattern is plain with no layers.
