We really only do the "harachamans" on shabbat, and generally skip them during the week (just doing the 4 blessings)? Is this common?

During the week we end bensching right after...the paragraph after u'vnei.

Why wouldn't you say the whole thing? Is this an ashki thing?

Most definitely not. I have never heard of finishing benching anywhere other than the end.

Same. I had never heard this was a thing.

Everyone should ask their LOR.

I don't eat bread every day but when I do I am very particular to say introductory tehilim and the whole Birkat hamazon. Sgula for parnossa and sheffa.

But if you're really in a rush, just say"Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yea, G-d!" and split. After all, the verse does say "ve'achalta vesavata uvarachta" (you shall eat and you shall be satiated and you shall flee).

Yes the harachamans are extra, I will skip them if in a major rush on Shabbos, that's what my father always did.
Litvish Ashkenazi if that helps.

I've only heard of skipping it because of extenuating circumstances. Or maybe during same circumstances getting up and walking around or doing other things. Not saying those are the parameters but that's been my only experience. (Ashk, Litvish.) CYLOR.

I definitely do this sometimes when I’m in a rush. Haven’t heard of any halachic backing for it though.

Same. I do this on shabbos also. My husband and kids say the whole thing. I don’t say the whole thing because I tend to get interrupted and lose my place, so I figure the less I say the less I will lose my place.

So sad. It literally takes 2 minutes to say them. Even from a bencher.

The opposite. I don't bench harachaman on shabbat bc it's bakasha .. a request and we don't ask God for things on shabbat

Yes was coming to say that I believe this - I.e. say the harachamans during the week but not on Shabbat - is the opinion of Rav Schachter from YU.

Very interesting! Does that mean just skipping the 9 Harachamans, or stopping at al yechasreinu?

They mean, I believe, stopping at al yechasreinu on shabbos
I have heard of that too.
