Is it spelled Yisrael or Yisroel? Any nice ideas/meanings behind the name? And what would go well with it besides Meir?

Some people spell it with an A, some people with an O. It’s really up to you.

I have a Yisrael. The reason I spell it with an a is because my brother is Yisroel Tzvi, and there were people who pronounced it with a long o. I thought that spelling it with an a would solve that problem, but instead there are people who pronounce it like Israel but with a y in front.

Yisrael is more jpf, modern orthodox and YU crowd. To me, Yisroel screams yeshivish. I have a Yisrael.

My thoughts are….that wasn’t his name, only one part of his name. I don’t know how he felt about giving a partial name after someone, but if he felt that names shouldn’t be broken up or changed, they you probably shouldn’t do it as naming AFTER HIM. Does that make sense?

Yes makes sense. I guess it's a shaila for a rav if someone names after Rav Chaim do they need to use all 3 names or is just the name that he went by sufficient.

Does anyone have any nice meanings/explanations for the actual name yisrael?

The Chumash tells us explicitly what the name means - you have struggled and prevailed.

וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא יַעֲקֹב יֵאָמֵר עוֹד שִׁמְךָ כִּי אִם יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי שָׂרִיתָ עִם אֱלֹקים וְעִם אֲנָשִׁים וַתּוּכָל.

I have a Yisroel and I love the name. We spell it with an O.

You asked about meaning, it comes from the word "sar" which means officer. So it means "officer of Hashem".
