How can you tell the difference between a cold and allergies? I gave my son two Covid tests, three days apart, both were negative, so that's not the problem, but he's been congested, sneezing, and run down for a week now. He hasn't had seasonal allergies before, but I guess they could be starting, I just don't know how to tell the difference.

Allergies are clear mucous. Also when I look up my nostrils it looks swollen and white as opposed to red which means infection.
