Working on a midda each day of the Omer is surely a good way to give the niftorim an ilui neshama.
There are a couple of ways to do this, with various seforim based on each one.
One is the 48 ways to acquire Torah from pirkei Ovos. There is a book by Rabbi Noach Weinberg a”h and his articles can be found on the Aish website. There is one article/chapter for each day of the Omer.
The other is based on the 7 sefiros, (tiferes, netzach, hod, yesod etc) and I think there is a book based on this too (can’t remember the name off hand).
Both are good ways of building the way up to Matan Torah and doing it in memory of those niftar in Merton may make this year more meaningful
