Wondering when I should put up my pesach cholent/yapchik this week since erev shabbos is YT. I can't shred the potatoes on Friday since it's YT, I need to do that part on Thursday.
I do it in crockpot
Options
- Thursday right before YT and leave the crock pot on low til shabbos
- Thurs morning on high then switch to Keep Warm til shabbos
- keep it raw in fridge til Friday afternoon then put it up on Friday
- prepare and freeze it raw and put it up Friday
- cook it completely on wed/Thursday and then warm it on Friday
- Give up and skip😔
Ps. Since it is my pesach crockpot I'm not really familiar with its personal levels of heat regarding keep warm

For potato kugel cholent, prep the kugel batter and sauté the onions advance. Put kugel batter in a mason jar or large container on Thursday, with a paper towel on top before sealing. Refrigerate. Only the paper towel will turn brown but not the kugel batter (If some of the batter on top browns, just scoop it off.) Then put up the dish fresh in the crockpot on Friday.

Another option is to hand grate potatoes for yapsuk on Friday.

I’m preparing it Thursday in crockpot insert and keeping it in fridge. I’m keeping crockpot plugged in and on low. I’ll put it in the crockpot Friday morning so it’s cooked before shabbos

If I was making a yapchik or kugel, I'd probably make it erev yom tov till just done. But now I see how the pros do it. I use potato chunks so I'll make it erev Shabbos beH.

I make yapchik. Bake on 450 for an hour on Thursday. I’m keeping my oven on 225. Pop into the oven before shabbos. Delicious yummy very time 😋.

Can you post your recipe? Also you put it in the oven at 225° Friday right before Shabbos and then just leave it in there til Shabbos morning? Covered or uncovered? Thanks so much!
