I mentioned to my mother that I took meat out of freezer for the 2nd night seder. She said you're not allowed meat!
Oops, I totally didn't realise. Is this because of korbon pesach?
My mother always serves chicken but I didn't realise that it was because you're not allowed meat.
My husband seemed to think it was ok.

There are a lot of different minhagim. We eat meat but saucy like meatballs or a braised roast. A dry roasted meat would not be allowed.

It’s all based on minhag
If your husbands minhag allows it, then you don’t need to follow your mothers minhag!

I know that roasted isn't allowed.
It was meat made in a pot of water...

He probably should ask his father, I'm going to remind him...
Is it also because one isn't supposed to be intimate seder night (heard from this site) and meat can make one in the mood?

We don't eat meat on seder night. Everyone holds different regarding this, like everything else on pesach. What does your husband's family do?

We haven't been there for years, completely forgot and no clue what his brothers do. Going to ask.

Many people I know serve brisket , in a sauce. Braised meat is fine.
I don't serve meat so late at night because then we can't sleep. I prefer chicken.

Ancient yekke/German minhag
Legend goes someone once found grains of wheat in stomach of chicken on pesach.
At this point not many ppl still do this. Just old time yekkes. Many ppl were matir neder bec too hard.
(Old time yekkes have other really strange pesach minhagim)

Yup it was brisket in its juice that I cooked it in. Ok good to know that we didn't do something against halacha, and it's a minhag! Thanks

My in laws actually don’t eat any type of meat at the seder. But they do eat it the rest of pesach. Not sure where that minhag comes from. In general they follow Polish minhagim

That’s so interesting. My parents also don’t eat any chicken on pesach and we’re Sephardic. I didn’t know yekkes also don’t. Learning something new every day

Didn’t know about sefardim
I find sefardim and yekkes have a lot of overlap in minhagim in general.

Ah so this is probably where my mother got it from. Her father lived in Poland (went through the war)

Please can you tell me more about the yekkish customs? Even though we think my family was from Russia/Lithuania/Poland (I'm BT) I have always felt comfortable with yekkish type minhagim for some reason. But I've never heard of chicken as Chametz. On Pesach my mother always comments that I make so much food, it's so delicious, for her Pesach was supposed to be all about "doing without" (she was a non religious family). Would love to hear more about yekkish Pesach minhagim.
