A comment on this cheesecake recipe https://betweencarpools.com/th.....cake/ says that her mil makes a similar one using sour cream.
Does anyone have that recipe? If not, do you think I can just substitute sour cream for the gevina levana?
I have extra sour cream in my house and would love to use it in this cake.
Thanks!

Strained sour cream turns into a type of cream cheese. Could be what she meant.
DH was just telling me his mother makes עוגת שמנת- sour cream cake, he claims it's 'like cheesecake but with sourcream' so that might be it.
Sour cream would most probably come out as a totally different texture and taste.

If you get your mil's recipe, could you share it here please?
I doubt it refers to a cream cheese-textured sour cream because gevina levana has a texture entirely unlike cream cheese...

I would not replace gevina levana by sour cream. It has a different texture and fat content. Full fat greek yogurt would be a better sub.

Creamy ricotta can be used instead of quark.
