We also got a letter about 2k per child we probably send to the same school. While I understand it, it's still a lot and I have more than 1 kid. We have to figure out how we can afford it, most people don't just have extra money in the budget for tuition changes.

Can I ask what a 2k raise brings tuition to?

What percentage of an increase is the $2k?

Either way, it's a whole lot from one year to the next!

Op what a truly offensive post.
Yes our tuition costs went up tremendously ( I have 6 kids in the school system) . It’s a tremendous strain on us. My husband and I each work two very demanding jobs… and yes one of those jobs is a teacher. My salary is in no way bloated. I wish I will get a slight raise. I work about 7 hours a day ( pt school and pt self employed) I can understand your being frustrated but don’t take it out on teachers bloated salaries , that’s quite hurtful and offensive. Perhaps you can communicate your frustration in a wait that’s not hurtful to others.

I'll repeat what I said before. I do not care if they raise teachers' salaries. I'm not jealous. They can pay them 50k for all I care.

They CANNOT raise tuition on struggling parents. This is not the time. They will be stealing foods from kids' mouths. As it is, I have limited chicken to only Shabbos and basically only do pasta/bagels/homemade pizza during the week. And dh and I work at jobs that make people think we are "rich."

The teachers in my kids school make pitiful salaries. I wish they would get paid more. Unfortunately there are certain administrators who make ridiculously high salaries. And the school wastes a lot of money too. I wish they would bring in a third party to help them manage their budget and give teachers a real raise without asking the parents for more money. As it is tuition has gone up a few thousand over the last few years and I'll be shocked if it doesn't go up again next year.

Why does it matter if ppl think you're rich? What does that have to do with raising tuition? If you're not rich then the tuition committee will see that and make a decision based on that. If other ppl think you're rich because you have nice looking jobs this will in no way impact on what the tuition ppl think.

Yes I ask for a break every year, fill out all the forms detailing every aspect of my life, and provide whatever supporting documents they want, such as tax returns.

The thing is, the higher the starting point, the higher my tuition will end up being. For example if full tuition is 10,000. And the school lets me pay 6,000. Now full tuition is 12,000 and they want me to pay 7500. Technically I got a $4500 break, but my tuition still increased drastically since last year.

Sorry I know that grammar in this post is awful

What is the definition of a pitiful salary? How much are they making? I would love to hear NUMBERS. People always talk about how low the salaries are, but no one provides numbers. I am very curious to hear numbers.

Everyone also keeps saying raising 2k but no one is answering me to what either. Interested in hearing numbers on both ends.

Who cares what people think? It’s not relevant to anything. Why don’t you apply for a scholarship? If you are really stretched this thin you’ll get a break.

Ours was raised to 7,500. Yes it’s low numbers. But still a raise is hard.

Not arguing the raise isn't hard, but I'm not sure how anyone can expect to keep a school running on 5,500 tuition to begin with. Where I live starting tuition is 9,000...

I got the same 2k increase letter today. So many of us send to the same school! It does seem unfair that we just pledged monthly donations to the school (based on our budget) and now they are telling us that tuition is being increased so much. I gave more than 2k in extra donations this year. Let them use that money towards my tuition next year.

Why? So that whatever number gets said someone will say "that's nothing. You were getting off cheap. I pay 4 times that amount just for my kids legs to come to school "

2k raise in tuition this year, when inflation is bad and gas is insane and many peoples salaries are not going up is painful.
Wether it went from 2k-4k, 12k-14k or 22k-24k.

Of course it matters. Working people don't get the breaks. That goes to the people in chinuch who are now getting the raises. The husband can be a rebbe, the wife can be a sahm and shopping all day, and they will get the break. Never mind tje food stamps, section 8, wic and everything else those people may get. But since we have 2 salaries we don't qualify for anything. I pay a ton of taxes. A ton of tuition. Work full time. No cleaning help. No eating out or vacation. Yet I am paying full tuition while many people who work less and spend recklessly get the breaks. I'm not bitter or jealous. I do what I need to do and think is right. But the truth is that the way financial aid is distributed in most schools is unfair and very subjective and arbitrary.

LOL! I’m a teacher and I’m laughing. Find me a school that is raising teachers next year 40k? (20 kids per class times 2k).

Most teachers don’t make close to that amount to begin with. The raises are very small.
Teachers make so little. And work so hard.

A)you don’t get maternity leave -every time you have a baby you loose a month or more paycheck. So many fellow teachers come back 3 weeks postpartum because they need the paycheck. In a regular job you get paid disability and then PFL. Here nothing.

B) the salary is very small. People who teach don’t teach because it’s a money making job

C) it’s a very hard job. It’s rewarding but it’s hard. There is a lot of preparation, and work to do after school.

D) many teachers don’t get paid on-time. And there are times the teachers checks bounce.
Let me fill you in on a reality of being a teacher: school is running behind on pay checks and you have to borrow money until you will get your paycheck

It’s crazy that tuition is going up 2k per kid! And the school I work in teachers don’t even get a break… But let me tell you most of it isn’t going to teachers raise. It’s easier for school to blame it on teacher raises then explain what they actually need the money for.

If it's so glamourlus you can become a teacher and enjoy the so called "easy life" and access the same perks...based on your post you imply that teaching is wrong...I thought we want to invest in good teachers to be role models for our children!?
