So interesting. Personally I think the army is necessary to protect the country, though I understand that it pulls some people away from observance. I actually know someone who became less observant after they went through the army. The reason I started researching this was because I'm writing a shomer negia romance novel between someone hareidi and someone DL. I've spent a lot of time dealing with their cultural differences but like no time on the army issue yet lol. So now I need to find a solution to this.
