My bar mitzvah is in January. I booked the hall/caterer a year in advance! That’s what you have to do in Lakewood if you want a specific hall…
I’m also making a Shabbos and am expecting a lot of out of town company…
Would love a comprehensive list of what needs to be done, if anyone has

Bar Mitzvah Checklist:
Decide if you are having bo bayom party and/or big shabbos
Order Tefillin (a year in advance)
Book hall for party (a year in advance!)
Book hall for Shabbos Kiddush
Decide if and what boy will lain, and arrange for lessons (6-12 months in advance)
Book party planner for party and/or Kiddush, if applicable
Book music
Book photographer ( decide on portraits only or photography/video package)
Book caterer for party and shabbos Kiddush- meet to discuss menu
Make invitation list: neighbors, co-workers, family and friends
Order invitations for party and Kiddush postcards
Order benchers
Shop for clothing for entire family for party and shabbos
Make appointment for girls’ hair, makeup, shaitel etc.
Send out invitations including response cards
Keep track on master list of responses and gifts
Write and teach pshetel to bar mitzvah boy
Get houses to put up guests for shabbos
Get hostess gifts if applicable
Get centerpieces for ladies tables and dessert table (fresh flowers from florist, or other)
Get tablecloths and serving pieces (rental and/or gemach)
Buy fancy paper goods and drinks for Kiddush and meals
Get place cards for party tables and make tables based on responses
Get tables and chairs from gemach, if meals will be in the house
Order extras for Kiddush (miniatures, fancy cakes etc.)
Decide on shabbos and kiddush menu and delegate jobs to all who offer assistance
Clean up, and return props, centerpieces, tables, chairs etc.
Order thank you cards and pressure your son to write them!
