Hi,
I'd like to spend less time on my smartphone, but I do still need it. Is there any way to have a flip phone just for talk and text, but with the same number as my smartphone? Or any other workarounds?

My sister keeps her whatsapp on a smartphone which she uses w wifi as opposed to data. Her other phone is also a smartphone but much more blocked up... Maybe that could be an option?

I have 2 separate phones: My smartphone is for work, and my flip phone (with text) is for personal use. I have the luxury of putting my smartphone away after work hours, and not bringing it with me on errands (if not during work hours).
BUT it's tricky because my photos, music, and calendar are all on my smartphone, and I still need it for non-work-related stuff. Still, it's a step up from using my smartphone for everything, all the time.
Ideally, I'd like to buy a Waze device, a good camera, and a good MP3 to replace most of the functions I fall back on my smartphone for.
Maybe one day...

You can definitely have a flip phone with the same number as your smartphone and the calls ring on both

You can get a google voice number and set it up to forward to both.

I have 2 separate numbers on each, but sometimes you can set up one of the phones as an accessory device to the other, so they can share the same phone # (kind of like having an iPhone & iPad with the same phone #). Doesn't always work though.

The phone store said I can do that- have my calls forwarded to the flip phone. But any way to have texting too, without getting a new number?

You need a mirror SIM. Some companies like t-mobile offer it. That's how you can have the same number ring on both.
