Title says it. I have decided to replace a diamond stud from the pair that my husband a"h gave me for our 1st anniversary I am a young(ish) widow and this Is a big splurge but I have a big birthday coming up and I would so much like to be able to wear the pair again. But very much afraid of being cheated.

My honest advice would be to think of a wealthy family guy friend you trust who has a relationship with his own jeweler and ask him to take care of it with his jeweler for you.

If by "wealthy guy friend" you mean a friend's husband l am not really comfortable with that from several points of view. Plus I want to make my own selection.

They give it out to a third party. I'm not saying you can't trust them but doesn't sound like an option for op
