Hi fellow Imas-

For those of you who swim in unheated pools- around what temperatures does it need to be outside in order to be comfortable? We are considering going away someplace but I don't want to go if it's not warm enough to swim! Thanks!

Remember to take into account nighttime temperatures. It can cool off the pool significantly even though the daytime temps are in the 70s etc

In the 80s it’s ok. But wait for later in the day when the pool has had time to warm up from cooler night temps.
Early Evening swim is warmest, but you miss the sun.

It takes a consecutive good few days of real hot weather for the water to sufficiently warm up. It wasn't hot enough yet in the tri state area for an unheated pool to be warm enough to swim. The water is most likely freezing.

Also depends how shaded the pool is. We swam in a pool that had full sun in the morning, it was much warmer than one in the shade.

ETA also depends if they cover it at night & with what. Some covers help keep it warm so it isn’t cooling off every night.

It also depends on the swimmer. Some people are more sensitive than others. I'll only enjoy an unheated pool if it's either sizzling outside, or if the pool has been cooking in the sun all day (helps if the past day wasn't cold either.)

82-83 is a perfect temp for a pool.

I second going swimming late afternoon, early evening, when the water is warmer.
